What is laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal is hair removal method performed by sophisticated laser equipment. One of the most popular hair removal treatments, laser removal offers almost pain-free results. The procedure’s effectiveness depends on factors such as hair colour and commitment to long-term results.
Laser and broadband IPL (intense pulsed light) devices can claim success in long-term delay of hair growth. ‘Permanent hair reduction’ refers to a reduction in the number of hairs regrowing. This means hairs are thinner and lighter than prior to laser treatment. Results last at least 12 months, but permanent removal can not be promised.
Achieving such results requires a series of treatments at regular intervals. Each person’s response to treatment will depend on many factors. This includes the area treated, colour and size of the hair, ethnicity, age, and other influences. Maintaining these results can require returning for revision treatments once or twice a year.
The laser light or broadband IPL targets the hair root deep in the skin. This heats and injures the hair during its growth phase. The hair then becomes dormant and growth is delayed.
Dark hair on fair skin will respond optimally. Treatment for darker skin types requires specific treatment settings. Blonde, red, grey and white hairs are less likely to respond to laser treatment.
At Áda we have 3 hair removal devices:
- Long pulse Nd: YAG laser
- Q switched Nd: YAG Laser
- BBL broad band light device
Our long pulse laser and IPL have cooling handpieces to minimise discomfort. The Q-switched Nd:Yag laser feels like a warm prickle and is well tolerated.
Laser and broadband IPL are quicker, less painful and safer than most alternative methods. In the long term, these will save you time and money.
With our techniques, there is usually very little downtime. Most commonly, there is a temporary slight pinkness in the treated area.
Side effects such as blistering and temporary skin darkening or lightening are rare using our techniques. We avoid treating sun-tanned skin, and use appropriate settings for different skin types.
Sensitive skin types appreciate laser’s minimal irritation. Those who suffer from “shaving rash” can find relief in laser treatments also.
At Áda Aesthetic Medicine in Sydney, only experienced laser doctors do consultations and laser/IPL treatments. Unlike other laser clinics, no ‘laser technicians’ or dermal nurses are used at any Áda clinic.
