Forever Young BroadBand Light Sydney NSW

Reduce signs of ageing and restore youthful properties to skin through BroadBand Light treatment

What is BBL treatment?

This consists of the treatment of photo-aged skin with visible broadband light using the Sciton BBL device. Broadband light can be used to reduce or eliminate hyperpigmentation, fine lines, redness and other signs of ageing. This usually requires 3-5 treatments at 3-4 week intervals.

What is ‘Forever Young BBL’?

‘Forever Young BBL’ was developed by American dermatologist Dr Patrick Bitter, a pioneer in the use of broadband light. It encompasses all the advantages of the original BBL procedure with the newly recognised benefit of delaying skin ageing.

‘Forever Young BBL’ is designed to maintain healthy skin and actually delays the signs of skin ageing (fine wrinkling, laxity, age spots, uneven pigmentation and textural changes).

Has this been proven scientifically?

Yes, recent clinical studies undertaken by Dr Bitter have shown that regular treatments of broadband light delivered 2 to 4 times per year appeared to delay the visible signs of skin ageing; including age spots, wrinkles and laxity.

Furthermore, a second recently published study by Dr Bitter showed that the reason for these results was that the broadband light was able to restore skin at the genetic level. The gene expression in BBL-treated skin appeared like that of young skin and many of the genes whose expression altered with age were fully restored to the expression seen in young skin.

At the clinical level, skin behaves more like young skin, therefore delaying the signs of ageing. The skin is able to maintain tone, clarity, smoothness and delay wrinkle development.

How is the treatment performed?

Broadband light is applied to the face, neck, décolletage or back of hands in a series of passes.

There is little, if any, discomfort and in most cases no downtime. The treatment is usually complete in 15 -20 minutes, and for best results the procedure is recommended 2-4 times per year.

Who can benefit from this treatment?

  • Younger people who do not yet need correction of damaged skin, but wish to maintain healthy skin and delay skin ageing
  • People who have had damaged skin previously corrected by BBL or laser treatments
  • More mature people who have better quality or healthier-looking skin and may not yet need corrective treatments
  • People who have previously undergone a facelift or other cosmetic procedures
  • People with darker skin types (who generally have healthier skin with little to no sun-damage), yet desire to maintain healthy skin and delay skin ageing

Is it suitable for all skin types?

Although the bulk of experience with lasers and broadband light has traditionally been with fairer skin types, the special protective filters and gentle settings available on the Sciton Broadband device now enable Forever Young BBL treatments to be performed safely on darker skin types as well.

Are there any precautions?

It is not advisable to treat tanned skin. Darker skin types are treated with special light filters and lower energy treatments to avoid possible adverse effects such as hypo or hyper-pigmentation and blistering. Male patients may elect not to treat the beard area, as BBL treatments reduce hair growth.
