Mesotherapy Lipolysis Sydney NSW

Also called ‘lipodissolve’, mesotherapy is a non-surgical technique first pioneered by French physician Dr Michael Pistor in 1952. It involves the micro-injection of medicines and vitamins into the skin to target problem areas. At Áda we mainly use mesotherapy for treating small deposits of excess fat on the lower face and neck, for example jowls, under chin, ‘double chin’ and ‘bra-bulge’ on the upper torso.

How does mesotherapy work?

At Áda we use a lipid dissolving solution; phosphatidylcholine (PPC) and deoxycholate (DC). These are similar to biological lecithin and bile salts that can dissolve fat cells. Further, with the intense inflammatory reaction this causes, some fibrosis will replace the dissolved fatty deposit giving some tightening effect of overlying skin. Very soon to be available in Australia, FDA approved is Kybella (the dexoxycholic acid).

What can I expect after the treatment?

Immediately you will see significant swelling and some burning sensation in the treated area for up to one hour. Bruising may also be seen. Marked swelling will take at least 7 days to go down. As the swelling goes down the area will feel firm and you may notice uneven lumpiness where the injections were. This will gradually soften and disappear. It can take at least 8 weeks before final results can be seen.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments will vary depending on the size of fatty deposit. On a face with small areas, 1- 2 treatments may be sufficient. On large body areas, such as the abdomen, up to 10 sessions may be needed. For treatment on the face/neck area sessions would be at least 2 months apart.

Is mesotherapy safe?

Side effects are temporary such as swelling, bruising and pain. Longer lasting but still temporary side effects can include areas of skin numbness or hard lumpiness. Other side effects that can occur, but are very rare, include skin necrosis or ulceration. Rarely there are allergic reactions to the injection solution, if you have a known allergy to lecithin or eggs you may not be suitable for this treatment. Very rarely infection risk such as abcess or cellulitis.

Who will be doing my treatments?

At Áda only experienced aesthetics physicians do all consultations, treatment planning and all injectable treatments. There are no ‘dermal or cosmetic’ nurses to do consultations or treatments at any Áda clinic.
