How to get rid of moles

Moles are very common skin growths.

Most people tend to have about 10 to 40 moles somewhere across their body. Most moles are harmless and are nothing to worry about.

Mole removal isn’t necessary unless it bothers you or is a health concern. If you don’t like the appearance, or if it’s getting irritated from rubbing against clothing, then removing the mole is an option.

If you notice a change in a mole then this is when you need to consider removal, as this could be a sign of skin cancer. You should see your dermatologist at this stage.

Some of the home remedies of removing moles are:

  • Burning the mole off with apple cider
  • Taping garlic to the mole to break it down from the inside
  • Cutting off the mole
  • Aloe Vera
  • Tea tree oil

Although some of these home remedies claim to work, they can of course be harmful and ineffective. The most effective method of suitable mole removal is laser treatment.

Why use laser for mole removal?

Some of the advantages of laser over surgical excision are:

  • Better cosmetic results – smaller less noticeable scarring in areas where skin closure is difficult (e.g. around the nose, lips.)
  • Reduced risk of keloid scarring in certain areas (e.g. chest)
  • No suture marks or stitches to be removed
  • Often no anaesthetic injections are needed
  • Quicker, with multiple lesions able to be treated in one sitting
