All About Acne Scar Removal

Acne scarring can leave your skin in poor condition and affect the underlying skin health.

Firstly, it is essential to understand and acknowledge the fact that acne is natural and, more often than not, unavoidable. Unfortunately, this natural event can often leave visible signs of scarring.

About 95% of people who suffer from acne will also suffer from acne scarring.

In this blog, we’ll discuss how the team at Ada Aesthetic Medicine can help alleviate the visible appearance of acne scars and provide some more information on how to treat acne scars.

Removal of scars at Ada Aesthetic Medicine

We have several non-surgical scar removal procedures, specific to the different types of scarring, including:

  • Red scarring – We use the KTP laser, YAG laser and BBL.
  • Pigmented scarring – Pigment lasers such as the Ruby or YAG.
  • Old, uneven pale scars – We use fractional resurfacing lasers.
  • Stretchmarks – Removal by fractional lasers.

All acne is different; there are different types of acne scars, and each class of scar will usually need specifically targeted treatments to get the best results.

Treatments for superficial acne scarring

Our team utilises many different forms of acne scar removal procedures, such as the following:

  • Fractional laser treatment – Improve skin texture, tone, lines, wrinkles, scars and some pigmentation disorders.
  • Fractional RF skin resurfacing – Aims to freshen appearance and improve many skin conditions.
  • Laser resurfacing – The laser light is absorbed into the skin and converted to heat that then vaporises the skin tissue, removing the skin’s outer surface layers.
  • Dermal fillers – Certain depressed scars from acne, trauma or surgery can also be improved with dermal fillers.
  • PRP Regeneration – Skin stimulation aiming to repair damaged tissue and promote dermal volume.

Often the best results will come by treating different types of scars using a combination of treatments. For example, laser resurfacing followed by dermal fillers for atrophic skin depressions. If this skin condition sounds familiar to your situation, we advise you to contact the Ada Clinic to discuss your options during a consultation.

Does laser scar removal hurt?

You can expect to feel some discomfort during the laser treatment. The discomfort will be dulled down though as you will be required to have a topical anaesthetic to numb the skin and surrounding areas. In some cases, sedation may be necessary.

Side-effects of laser scar removal?

There are some some-effects that you may experience; however, they should clear up in between two to ten days.

  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Redness of the skin
